State panel backs revised Cedar Rapids historic district expansion
State Historical Society staff toured the proposed expanded Bohemian Commercial District in Cedar Rapids praising most bounds while advocates push to include the Czech Village neighborhood. The 11 member Nomination Review Committee will weigh public comments at its Oct 8 Des Moines meeting before forwarding to the National Park Service.

Cedar Rapids will issue local-option sales tax relief checks averaging 8075 to 1429 homeowners damaged in the June 2008 flood. The program allows up to 10000 to replace personal possessions, with deductions for FEMA or insurance, and weekly disbursements began July 28.
