FEMA pays 27.6 million to replace Cedar Rapids flood sewers

Cedar Rapids wins FEMA funding to replace five flood damaged sanitary sewers one brick built in 1887 and another in 1892 with an estimated 27.6 million from federal and state officials. Flood recovery director Greg Eyerly said funds cover historical review and the project will start in spring after a previous funding freeze ends. He noted the library grant approved this week also.

Former UI officer tased student at Kinnick Stadium game

Mitch Seymour a North Liberty police officer and former University of Iowa police employee tased Christopher Knotts twice during the Sept 11 home game. Knotts resisted requests to leave the crowd and accused the taser use as undeserved. North Liberty chief said Seymour acted within local guidelines.

Former Clinton administrator stole 1.2 million, audit finds

Denisa Babcock, 36, of Camanche, is indicted on a theft charge as a special audit tracks $1.2 million siphoned from Clinton Community School District between 2005 and 2009. She deposited district checks into personal accounts, while district officials say oversight failures allowed the embezzlement. The audit covers 2005 to 2010 and compares to a Cedar Rapids case of $587,784.
