Cedar Rapids seeks 7.76 million in grants for street and landscape work

The Cedar Rapids City Council plans to apply for state and federal funds totaling 7.76 million for two programs. The largest item is a street project linking 33rd Avenue SW between 12th and 18th streets with crossings at Prairie Creek and the CRANDIC railroad, estimated at 5 million with a 1 million local match if a grant is awarded. The plan includes I-380 landscaping from Wright Brothers Boulevard to 33rd Avenue SW and DOT funded pavilion and restrooms near the Cedar Lake trail, plus trail paving and parking area improvements at a total of about 650000 with a 195000 local share. Additional projects include a traffic signal at Blairs Ferry and Edgewood roads and a left turn lane on Johnson Avenue at Edgewood Road SW with costs up to 850000.
