Ford Engine Passes Early Pollution Tests but Not Ready for Production
WASHINGTON AP Ford reports its experimental engine for Ford Motor Co and the U S army has passed short term EPA pollution tests but durability and performance over 50 000 miles remain unproven. EPA chief Ruckelshaus noted possible one year delay to 1974 deadlines if industry cannot meet standards. The engine uses a stratified charge method mixing fuel with air inside the cylinder rather than in a carburetor.
