Elkader to Break Ground for New Emergency Site
Elkader plans a Friday ground breaking at 10 a.m. for a new emergency services facility at 921 Humphrey St in the industrial park. The current Turkey River downtown building has flooded four times since 1990 and plans to relocate after the 2008 flood. The $1.2 million project will add four double deep bays for fire engines two double deep bays for ambulances a storm shelter training areas secure storage and a medevac landing area. A $500 000 I-JOBS grant will help cover the cost.

Kalona Festival Ok With Downtown Revitalization
Kalona’s Fall Festival proceeds this weekend with downtown work paused for the event. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said construction will be out of sight and parking ready two blocks away. The 39th annual festival runs Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kalona Historical Village.
