Prairie Community school district moves toward a 1 1 computer program for all Prairie High School students with a resolution authorizing educational and technological specifications. The district will form a digital literacy committee to discuss details, and vendors will demo products on Oct 25.

Jury selection continues in fatal landlord shooting case
Dozens of potential jurors return to Johnson County court to face questions as the first degree murder trial of Charles W. Thompson proceeds. Thompson, 19, is accused in the October 8 2009 shooting of landlord John Versyot 64 of Cordova Illinois at the Broadway Condominiums in Iowa City. The case includes a co defendant Justin A. Marshall 20 a material witness detained in Texas with trial set for January 17.

Third life term for Bailey death in Iowa case
Denise Frei, 46, of Marengo, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the first degree murder of her boyfriend Curtis Bailey on July 19, 2009. A jury convicted her in Davenport on August 25 after a weeklong trial. Frei and two accomplices beat Bailey to death. Hilgendorf and Dayton are serving life terms.
