Dome of Maine Yankee nuke plant toppled in decommissioning
The 150 foot containment dome at Maine Yankee in Wiscasset collapsed after 1,100 pounds of explosives were placed in drilled holes. The event drew hundreds as the plant neared closure after 24 years of operation begun in 1972. Heavy equipment will dismantle the dome and rail 20 million pounds of rubble to Utah.
