Tropical storm Jeanne weakens after lashing Dominican Republic
Slow moving Jeanne drenched the Dominican Republic with wind and rain causing mudslides and collapsed walls. Seven deaths reported across the Caribbean including a palm tree collapse in El Seybo and a man dying after being unable to reach a hospital. The storm weakened to a tropical depression and headed toward the Bahamas with possible effects on Florida and Haiti. Helicopter rescues planned for northeastern towns as Samana endured hours of torrential rain and roofs torn away.
