UI plans new cancer research building on health sciences campus
Iowa monitors say cancer survivorship is rising with 168,610 survivors in the state. Regent approval would start planning a modern interdisciplinary cancer research facility on the health sciences campus, possibly at the Medical Education Building or Westlawn, both slated for razing due to deferred maintenance. The project aims to support faculty across Carver College of Medicine and health sciences programs, funded by donations, university resources, and patient revenue, as UIHC expands a multi‑billion dollar growth plan including hospitals, inpatient towers, and new academic buildings.
