Johnson County branch of Community Appeal Church World Service plans 1969 campaign drive to start Sunday chaired by Rev. Robert Holzhammer. CROP reports over 1.5 million dollars in food and supplies distributed in 1969 with Nigeria Biafra as chief recipient receiving 577 thousand dollars in aid.
Monticello reports the Jones County Hiking club will hold its first hike of the season next Sunday at 10 p.m. in Welby Maryland. Readers are invited to join the event with a preview film shown at the Lion club new series premiere.
Public meeting scheduled for October 16 at 8 PM in Mt Vernon sponsored by local citizens and Cedar Rapids Citizens Committee on Alcoholism. The program includes counseling treatment and public education and will launch a series of meetings through the year. Speaker will be Dr. James G. N. Brown of Town City on Identification and treatment of alcoholism. The public is invited.
Dr. Furbay, a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and veteran U S diplomatic service in Costa Rica and Colombia, will lecture at Upper Iowa. He has traveled extensively and the event is open to the public at no charge.
