Benton judge reinstates 31 dismissed District Court cases
District Court Judge Thomas Koehler reinstated 31 of 100 cases he ordered dismissed to prune inactive files from the Benton County system. Prosecutor David Thompson objected, saying the prosecutor should decide which cases to drop after clerk Cindy Forsyth listed them in May. Forsyth had notified Thompson and waited for action, but Koehler proceeded. Thompson later reviewed the 100 and urged reconsideration for 31 with merit.

Maquoketa burn victim’s condition upgraded
Amanda O’Meara, a twelve year old girl from Maquoketa, was upgraded to good condition at University Hospitals in Iowa City after suffering second and third degree burns. Tara Tallman and Lynette Bodenhofer, aged 15 and 12, face felony willful injury charges and are in juvenile custody.
