Two East Iowans Die in Separate Crashes
Two Eastern Iowans died in separate Monday evening crashes. Carol Eugene Wilcox 35 of Sigourney perished when his pickup failed to pass on highway 92 east of Oskaloosa, rolled eight times and burned. John Drewelow 16 from rural Lowden died in a one vehicle crash southwest of Lowden while a pickup driven by Dwight Niermeyer 16 carried him and two other youths. Niermeyer and David 14 were not seriously hurt. Services for Wilcox are set for Wednesday at Holm funeral home in Sigourney. The report notes the elder Drewelow's father was seeking a seat on the Lowden school board.

Incumbent Barbara Bjornson and Ronald Moore won three year terms on the Cedar Rapids Community school board in elections held Monday. They defeated a measure to establish director districts. Bjornson carried 24 of 41 precincts with 2 964 votes of 4 595 cast. Moore won 2 046 votes to Ed Olson's 1 920, carrying one precinct and finishing second in 17. Treasurer Peter Bailey was unopposed for a two year term with 2 345 votes. One write-in vote was cast.
