Engelbert Humperdinck delivered a 75 minute show with a 25 piece orchestra at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids before about 1,350 fans. He sang hits and performed bold banter with a sexy stage presence while a trio Le Breeze backed the act. the crowd especially enjoyed the love songs and the encore medley.

Man shot found dead in Linwood Cemetery

The body of 32 year old Cedar Rapids man Duane Leon Mumm was found near a grave in Linwood Cemetery at 11 45 a m. He died of four chest gunshot wounds from a .22 caliber handgun. An autopsy was pending. Authorities noted a connection to the grave but would not disclose details.

Wholesale inflation rises to 7.5 percent in August

The Labor Department reports a 7.5 percent annual rise in wholesale prices for August with food costs nearly flat and energy up 1.2 percent. Analysts foresee slower inflation ahead with some predicting the year will end with much lower overall gains.

Neighborhood watch cited in girl's quick rescue

An 8 year old Waterloo girl was forced into a pickup Friday but reunited with parents within 20 minutes thanks to a neighborhood watch. William J. Nims Jr. 19 Cedar Falls is charged with first degree holding against will. He appeared in Black Hawk County District Court with $100000 bond and is held in Waterloo City Jail. The girl was taken while walking to St Edward's School. authorities say she was mistreated. Neighbor Mrs John Rooff chased the truck while Lee Mohler, in his car, observed the scene. Residents noted a young man not from the area had been seen near the route. Police later recovered the girl and suspect on a road near Waterloo. Mohler credited the neighborhood watch for the swift capture and praised the program.
