New UCP Van Aids Cedar Rapids Disabled Transit Project
After two years, the United Cerebral Palsy Center in Cedar Rapids has a 12 passenger van funded by an Iowa DOT grant with a 20 percent local match of 3559.74 from Sertoma Club of Greater Cedar Rapids. The Mobility Recreation Project aims to provide after hours access to community events and activities for disabled residents, staffed by a supervisor and four aides. If funding falls short the service will shrink but transportation will continue. A survey will determine user needs and a calendar of excursions will be posted. Initially free to ride, participants will pay activity admission.
