Vandals strike Marion parks causing widespread damage
Park Director Joe Butterfield told the Marion Park Board a rash of vandalism hit two weeks with Thomas Park electrical system damaged by a smashed meter and pole. Hanna Park suffered shelter-house destruction and Willow Park restrooms closed for the season. Gas cans were stolen from a cemetery storage facility. Portable restrooms were proposed. The pool faced a $12,000 to $13,000 deficit after a poor season with flooding and bad weather.

District weighs building needs and leases in Marion district
Marion Independent school board heard a call for a long and short term survey of school building needs. Superintendent Bob Hale said Longfellow and Washington buildings draw interest though Longfellow may be remodeled for a police station. Grace Baptist School has a short term lease for Washington gym at 56 dollars per month.

Marion Briefs Cancelled Meeting Rescheduled in October
A semi annual meeting for Marion members and stock holders at Indian Creek Country Club was cancelled and will be rescheduled in early October. A photo exhibit Faces of Iowa 1981 by Iowa photographers runs at Linn-Mar High School media center through Oct 7 from 7 30 a m to 4 0 p m sponsored by the Iowa Arts Council and the Des Moines Register. Linn-Mar yearbooks can be picked up in Room 114.
