Bergen's hands off policy gains praise from police and fire chiefs
In eight months Bergen, 48, running on a hands off approach for the city safety departments, has won support from Police Chief Gareth Clift and Fire Chief Edsel McMickle who say departments run themselves with his guidance. Officers report improved morale and communication at City Hall as Bergen works to keep politics out of daily operations and to foster policy collaboration with the council and mayor.
