New allergy drugs bring hay fever relief
The People's Pharmacy notes a shift from antihistamines to nasal steroid sprays and cromolyn Nasalcrom for hay fever. Nasalide Beconase and Vancenase deliver localized relief with minimal side effects, while Cromolyn sodium Nasalcrom prevents histamine release. Lipectomy Comes to Iowa First Fat-Suction Procedure
Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids will perform Iowa's first lipectomy also called fat suctioning. Dr. Thomas Pauly will lead the October procedure using a $3000 machine approved by the FDA. The operation targets 40 or younger patients with diet resistant fat in areas such as abdomen hips thighs and arms and is mostly cosmetic with costs around 2000 to 2500 dollars. Most procedures are outpatient with a 36 hour recovery and a week long pressure dressing.
