Health service coordination urged by Dr Parran
Dr Thomas Parran, U S surgeon general, urged federal and local health service coordination at the Linn County Medical Society meeting in Montrose hotel Cedar Rapids. He called for public funds to finance medical research and for hospitals in sparsely settled areas noting Iowa’s share of a 1 5 million federal health appropriation. He warned of a national bed deficit and uneven access to care.

Government not proposing national takeover of health care
Dr Parran explained that while 500 rural hospitals and federal grants in aid are proposed, the national health program should not place control under the federal government. He urged local autonomy, sound planning by medical experts, and federal aid tied to local needs rather than radical nationwide changes.
