Marvin T. Grattan 91 and wife 86 returned to the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown after a trip to the national Grand Army of the Republic encampment in Pittsburgh. Gov. George A. Waterloo man gets up to five years for larceny
Robert Besser aged 36 of Waterloo pled guilty to larceny before Judge C J Haas. He was previously charged with breaking and entering after entering the office of Dr Walter M Skallerup at Walker on Aug 22 and taking medicines drugs and instruments valued at $500. About $50 was recovered. He was arrested Aug 24 by Buchanan county Deputy Sheriff H L Buckingham near Independence with some stolen items.

STANWOOD opening day draws several thousand fans for the Stanwood fall festival and horse show. A three game baseball tournament saw Mechanicsville beat Cedar Bluffs 9 to 7 and Lisbon top Olin 11 to 3. In a 17 to 15 slug fest playoff Mechanicsville defeated Lisbon. Horse show judging began at 10 a.m. with Mechanicsville earning top honors in several classes for yearling draft mare and gelding, while the top wins went to Wyoming and Ryan residents.
