Evanston AP Northwestern opens its 1951 football season with the largest turnover since Bob Voigts took over. With 18 lettermen gone, nine first teamers, Voigts plans to lean on 35 freshmen and 32 sophomores, including promising backs and linemen, to fill nearly every position.

Belle Plaine Takes 7 1 Lead In Series Opener

Belle Plaine defeats Watkins 7 to 1 in the opening game of the Shaughnessy playoff series in East Central Iowa league. Glenn Drahn earned his sixth win, Don Wagner drove in two with a double, and Belle Plaine leads the best of three with a win in Thursday night action. The teams meet again Sunday at Watkins with a possible third game next Tuesday in Belle Plaine.

Walker Tops Alburnett 10 5 as Paul suffers leg fracture

Paul Walker son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Paul of Alburnett fractured both legs in a Tuesday high school baseball game won by Walker 10 to 5. He underwent surgery Thursday morning. The game opened the season for both schools and Walker schedules include games at Beroyie Coggan at Troy Mills Row and Rowley in October.
