Marion council weighs private use of city land for 4311 unit complex

Marion City Council planned a 7 p.m. meeting to decide if a public hearing should be set for Ron Webb’s OPM request to use about 0.25 acre north of Boyson Road for storm detention. A hearing would signal support for granting a permanent easement to OPM to develop 15 two story buildings, with traffic concerns raised on 10th Street. Webb said without the easement the project would shrink by about 30 units and may fail to break even. Council members noted precedents for developers to place detention on their own property. The city owns the land from the Boyson Road extension project and is zoned R6A.
