Stamp designer Thompson gets Madison stamp honor
John Thompson of Hellman Associates in Waterloo designed the U S Madison commemorative stamp issued October 18 to mark the 250th birth anniversary of President James Madison. The Cedar Rapids native, 35, also created the 1995 Polk stamp and helped with the 1997 Pacific stamps. He was chosen by Postal Service art director Carl Herrman for Madison the depiction shows Madison before Montpelier. The Montpelier Foundation invited him for another rendering and a visit.
