The current 26,000 square foot lab in the Wallace State Office Building will be replaced by a state of the art facility downtown, improving safety and workflow. Scientists will access chemicals via wall pipes, with a dedicated drug evidence room and ventilation to reduce odors. About $465,000 will fund new equipment and furniture. Darwin Chapman, interim lab administrator, calls it a huge step forward.
DES MOINES AP Iowa is using a Web based Homeless Management Information System to prevent double counting as homeless people move between shelters. Congress created the system in 2001 requiring agencies funded by HUD to record SSNs birth dates and ZIP codes. Iowa has used it for two years. Wisconsin Arkansas Arizona Rhode Island and Maine also participate. The system also collects demographic data like cause of homelessness addictions domestic abuse and special needs to analyze causes.
