Bosh Resignation To Be Effective This Sunday
Cedar Rapids Mayor Frank Bosh announced Friday he is resigning, effective Sunday. He will fly to Arizona to join his family Sunday night as the city council decides the successor. Council finance chief Stewart Shank may serve as mayor pro tempore until the Nov 4 election. Bosh said the mayor-elect should take office immediately after the election rather than Jan 1. He cited personal distance of about 1600 miles from his family as a reason for resigning. He noted Aug 15, early September, and late September were considered as possible resignations to ensure a smooth transition. Bosh would not reveal his next position, saying his future employer should announce it. The Bosh family is seeking a home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Bosh called Cedar Rapids the finest community in the Midwest and warned that government reform is about people, not titles. He, 46, has served since 1962 in city government, winning the mayor’s seat in 1967. Eight candidates remain for mayor, including Donald Canney.
