The Iowa Department of Education report shows more than 90 percent of public schools aren’t in need of assistance under the No Child Left Behind scheme. 27 of 361 districts and 356 of 1427 schools were designated SINA in 2010-11 with sanctions for Title I schools.
Cedar Rapids and nearby Iowa districts reduced 2010 11 staff as budget cuts and enrollment declines pressured resources. The Cedar Rapids district cut 55.6 FTE with 15 laid off. most recalls came via attrition and transfers. Winton Shellsburg reduced about 20 positions, mostly through attrition, with one high school Spanish teacher not returning. Officials caution about hiring until Education Jobs Act funds are assured. Iowa expects about 96 million dollars in federal aid pending approval.
The City Council approved about 870000 in three minutes with 719823 for Loggerhead Road water main and sewer work under Interstate 380. Additional items include 20740 for City Hall irrigation, 2200 for piping, 44022 on pavement on C Avenue, 13697 for North Center Point Road work, and 72665 for North Center Point Road water and sewer extensions.
