Cedar Rapids pupils head to pools at the end of a hot week while schools limit hours and relax dress rules. Supt. Arnold Salisbury notes 180 day state law keeps classes in session. About 18 000 students remain enrolled, and plans for Christmas break hinge on weather and schedules.
Cedar Rapids Art Assn invites enrollment for fall term classes starting the week of September 12. Tuition is 12 dollars with member and family discounts. Courses cover preschool, primary, intermediate, teen, and adult painting, sculpture, pottery, silver jewelry, design, and more, taught by multiple instructors at the Art Assn Gallery and local rooms. An exhibit of student work is planned for December.
Cedar Rapids branch of the American Association of University Women outlines its year program theme AAUW Surveys the Six ties with the first general meeting Tuesday at 8 PM at the Woman's club featuring Dr Signi Falk Coe College English speaking on Competition for College Hostess Mrs Lester O Jones with Mains Hougen Pickard and Miss Lois McBroom Child Study Group II meets Thursday at 8 PM with Mrs James Lovett 1406 Fortieth St NE program Children’s Music.
Mrs. Frederick J. Schueler Ashley chapter regent announces committee chairmen for the next two years. Officers include Mrs. R. E. Denny vice regent and several secretaries, treasurer, registrar, historian, and librarian. State and chapter heads cover American Indians American music Americanism and citizenship DAR bylaws Children of the American Revolution conservation good citizens magazine museum school finance and budget genealogical records national and state honor roll insignia junior membership membership motion picture national defense organist parliamentarian press relations program radio and TV social events transportations and district chairmen. First meeting is Saturday at 12 30 in the public library auditorium with DAR Takes a Bus Tour as the program. Hostesses include several Mmes. Norrgard Barber Wilson Smith and Clark Harstad Rush and Denny.
