Iowa researchers call state wage poor despite strong job growth
Three University of Iowa professors report Iowa remains wage poor with 47 percent of workers earning under $10 an hour and average pay at $26 035. They note low unionization, 12 ½ percent, and that most growing jobs pay under poverty level or just under 30 000 a year. Fisher, Gordon and Osterberg link income gaps to rising wealth concentration and urge attention to living wages. Fisher will speak at Hawkeye Labor Council picnic in Cedar Rapids.
