Unemployment Benefits Granted in UI IT Case Despite Tickets Sale
Iowa City The Gazette reports Mark Sevcik a 66 year old former University of Iowa Athletics IT director and help desk supervisor on paid administrative leave after his January arrest for alleged sex crimes and related charges was approved for unemployment benefits. The administrative law judge found his March firing for transferring complimentary women’s basketball tickets to his adult son who sold them did not constitute disqualifying job related misconduct. The ruling noted the ticket policy allows transfer to family but forbids third party resale and that Sevcik’s login sharing and ticket transfer were not proven disqualifying misconduct. The ongoing criminal case includes felony counts of enticing a minor and related charges.
