Warsaw reports accuse Germany of bombing women and children and claim Polish troops hold the line. Berlin says objectives are met as Nazis claim advances including Teschen. Censors and propaganda hinder independent verification of the conflicting accounts.
White House secretary Stephen Early said Roosevelt will not rush a decision on issuing a neutrality proclamation or reconvening Congress to revise neutrality laws. A studio address at 8 p.m. CST may outline intentions as officials remain uncertain. Secretary Hull called European events kaleidoscopic and declined detailed comment pending clarification of developments.
The Polish telegraph agency reports 130 killed in 94 Luftwaffe air raids since invasion began, targeting homes, cities, towns, and villages. Civilians are said to be bombed and machine-gunned on open roads as fighting continues. Barbara Uchytil 61 died at Mercy Hospital after a 26 year stretch as a patient beginning April 18 1913. She lived at Tama before admission and suffered from arthritis through era changes until her death. Her husband John W. Uchytil was notified and the body went to Mason's Funeral home Tama. their son William George was 15 months old at her admission.

In a message he states the German air force will limit actions to military objectives and expects similar restraint from opponents. He adds the rule was already announced in his Reichstag speech.
London authorities released many short term prisoners from Pentonville on Saturday due to the probability of war. Long term inmates were to be moved to prisons outside London as part of wartime measures.
Col Frank Knox publisher of the Chicago Daily News called for all Americans to give whole hearted undivided support to President Roosevelt amid the European crisis. He spoke in Chicago in a weekend editorial urging unity and national resolve during tense international events.

More than 1,000 American refugees from war threatened Europe are stranded in Le Havre after a government order stopped the liner Ile de France from sailing. The embassy said France assured that the ship would sail eventually, but it remained docked 24 hours past its scheduled departure.
