Iowa City district seeks state audit after 2 million in errors

Iowa City schools asked the state auditor to review finances after discovering 2 million in bookkeeping mistakes and a 25 thousand dollar IRS fine. Superintendent Murley said the audit would help fix processes, with outside firm review planned and two audit firm finalists to be vetted by September 12.

Man convicted of kidnapping attempts suicide at Linn County Courthouse

Jabari Walker of Cedar Rapids, found guilty of third degree kidnapping for forcing a woman to perform sex acts, attempted to leap from a fourth floor railing as verdict was read. He remained handcuffed, awaiting sentencing and possible sexual predator enhancement.
