Tenant files IRS protest over rent hike at Coralville Le Chateau
A Coralville tenant Dr John F Baesemann has filed a formal IRS complaint against Le Chateau apartments arguing a post Nixon rent freeze guideline violation. He says notices of rent increases were not given last Friday and would take effect for leases signed since June 22. Attorneys for owners seek IRS guidance on the freeze status while other Coralville complexes weigh or reverse planned increases. A separate Westhampton Village case also shifted from planned increases to no change. Local tenants groups and university housing advocates discuss broader impact amid the change.
