Laborer Goes Berserk on Third Avenue

A 31 year old laborer unloading a refrigerator at 519 Third Avenue SE went berserk around 2 pm Friday. He tried to enlist bystanders to help break into a car claiming his wife was smothering to death. He smashed a car window, then told police at headquarters his wife her sister and two children rode into town on invisible pills and vanished at Ellis Park. He was taken to Mercy hospital psychopathic ward for treatment.

Raymond W. Eden Wounded in Korea

Pvt. Raymond W. Eden 23 son of Mr and Mrs Clem W Eden of 1021 First Street SE has been reported wounded in action in Korea. A war department telegram Aug 19 said he was slightly wounded Aug 9. A friend’s letter reports left shoulder and left face injuries making writing difficult. Eden, left handed, shipped overseas May 31 after being drafted Jan 18. He worked as a receiving clerk at Witwer’s wholesale grocers before enlisting.

Ross Edwards, Fredericksburg high school principal, acts as superintendent after E. E. Robinson resigns two days after the fall term began. Robinson had two years left on his contract and clashed with three newly elected board members. His wife also resigns as a teacher in the system.

Hancher Criticizes Restrictions on U S Production

Virgil M. Hancher, president of the University of Iowa, told 208 University of Wisconsin banking graduates that American dynamic industrialism can bring a vision of plenty for all. He condemned artificial production limits and the view that world tensions pit capitalism against communism.

Edgewood Valley Golf Club Plans All Female Caddy Staff

Edgewood Valley Country Club in Chicago will employ an all female caddy staff next year. Director Vic Spitz says the caddies are quiet and stay on the course carrying 36 holes. A competitor in a tournament complained his caddy was too cute to keep his eye on the ball.
