Suit Filed To Stop Packers From Pocketing Hog Tax Returns
A Chicago suit by ten eastern Iowa hog producers and others seeks refunds from eight packing firms including the Cedar Rapids operator. It claims processing taxes collected since May were deducted from producer prices and asks court to determine what money, up to 6 million dollars, might be returned if the tax is unconstitutional. An injunction to restrain defendants from destroying hog processing records is also requested.
