Injured Marengo man among 6 charged with drunk driving in Linn
Six people were arrested for drunken driving in Linn County late Friday and early Saturday. A Marengo man, Danny Q. Johnson, 30, was injured when his motorcycle hit a curb in Cedar Rapids. Johnson and passenger John Carlson, 21, were listed in fair condition. A witness said the bike was speeding when it struck a curb at Second Street and 13th Avenue SW around 3 a.m. The cycle crossed the street, hit a parked car, and threw both men into the road. Additional arrests included William C. Hall, 39, Solon. Robert L. Brockway, 20, Marion. Rose A. Bergstad, 18, Cedar Rapids. William P. Kuhl, 30, Hiawatha. and Holly J. Muilenburg, 19, Cedar Rapids, all charged with drunken driving and related offenses.

Belated birthday party saves Clarksville family
A Waverly restaurant birthday party for 45 year old Dean Wefel and his family delayed due to schedule caused their escape from a gas furnace blast that destroyed their rural Clarksville home seven miles northeast. The family of six was dining at 9:30 p.m. when the explosion occurred, narrowly sparing their lives. Clarksville lies about 20 miles northwest of Cedar Falls.

Judge approves sale of Bloomfield motel to repay bank debts
A district judge approved the sale of Hrothgar's Inn at the crossroads near Bloomfield for 575000 to settle the Exchange Bank of Bloomfield insolvency. FBI nabs Iowa fugitive on most-wanted list
Davenport, AP, reports FBI agents in California arrested Ernest Nathaniel Keeling, 50, of Davenport, on Iowa’s 10 most wanted list since 1980. Keeling, linked to a 1977 armed holdup of a Davenport Red Lobster, fled in 1978 while free on appeal bond. He remained jailed in Los Angeles awaiting return to Iowa for a court hearing.

Colfax teen dies in I 235 one car crash
Michael Keith Kiecher 18 of Colfax died early Saturday when his car struck a bridge railing on Interstate 235 near Bevington. Two passengers, Robbie Prater 19 of Altoona and Karen Hicks 19 of Des Moines, were injured and taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment.
