Gene Metzger, 27, of Richmond Virginia, collapsed at the intersection of Third avenue and Second street SE and was rushed to St Luke s hospital at 5 p m Friday. He is an unemployed civil engineer with relatives in Cedar Rapids and had phoned them before the collapse. A San Pedro sailor who traveled with Metzger for five days said Metzger met him in Reno New and that the relatives could not be reached by telephone.
In Bristol and London, unemployed crowds faced police force with injuries reported in Hyde Park. Authorities guarded the House of Commons, Buckingham Palace, and the Bank of England after threats and a call to wreck the house. Seventy-seven people were injured in clashes and demonstrations were planned through Sunday.
Tokyo prepares a five chapter counter report to the League of Nations in Geneva arguing Japan acted within the Kellogg pact in Manchuria and that China cannot be recognized as a stable government. Isaburo Yoshida will deliver the document, criticizing the Lytton Commission as biased and urging continued control of Manchuria by Japan and Manchukuo.
Walter Brock of near Delwein won the first Fayette county corn husking contest at the county farm. Thirteen contestants drew 800 spectators. Brock’s gross 1550 lb produced a net 1188 lb or sixteen bushels sixty lb. Harold Smith finished second with 1378 gross and 1154 net. Brock to enter state contest November 4 near Colfax.
Detroit Times reports Henry Ford and his wife did not register for the November 8 election. The paper notes that unless Ford takes an oath of illness or absence on October 19, the last registration day, he will be unable to vote.
The Reconstruction corporation approved a loan of 2,425,400 dollars to Michigan for relief. Of this, 2,205,400 dollars funds Detroit needs from October 1 to December 31 and 220,000 dollars covers Grand Rapids from November 16 to December 31. The release states Detroit local relief resources are exhausted.
Hollywood dispatch reports J Darsle Lloyd father of Harold Lloyd married Helen Marshall of Virginia on Thursday night. The couple plan a world cruise sailing from San Francisco on November 7 after their honeymoon.

Davenport—Charles P. Wolf and his wife Helen B. Wolf are named in four indictments for false pretenses in a Scott county grand jury report. They allegedly obtained about 20 000 in mortgages from the American Bank of Davenport, with some loans three times the value of the property. Indictments also allege mortgages on properties not owned and on others’ real estate. The same grand jury returned twenty indictments including James Russell, a wounded bank robber captured Oct 6, indicted for entering a bank with intent to rob. The session lasted seven weeks, one of the longest on record.
In Paris the chamber of deputies approved Premier Herriot's government by 430 to 20 after a extended debate over disarmament policy. The vote occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

Paris reports 249 727 jobless at start of winter the highest since World War II with 51 054 fewer unemployed compared to the previous year.
