Four hurt in two car crash on Eighth Avenue and Ninth Street
On Monday afternoon four people were injured when a Knapp driven car collided with Lange’s after Lange crossed Ninth street at the Eighth avenue intersection. Warren Coonrod, 85, of Toddville, remained in St. Luke's with neck and rib injuries. Julia Knapp 21, Janice Nielsen 27, and Marcella Baugh 45 were treated and released. Lange, 79, from Toddville, faced a stop sign violation charge and will appear October 31 in police court. Damages were about 850 to the Knapp car and 600 to Lange's. The Lange car narrowly missed the Marion nursing home at 892 Eighth avenue after the crash. The three Knapp passengers were women. Coonrod rode with Lange.

Gas Tank Explodes Injuring Tipton Farmer
Gustave Stakey, 66, suffered third degree burns when a tractor gas tank exploded as he filled it on a farm about three miles southeast of Tipton. He was listed in fair condition Tuesday at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Man Accused of Not Returning Auto He Rented
John P. Marrah of 301 Clark Street Hiawatha was arrested on a warrant for failure to return a rented vehicle from Jack Hart's Rent-A-Car. He allegedly kept the car since June 26 and appeared in municipal court before Judge John B. Reilly who set a ten percent of a $1000 bond and gave him until Thursday to move or plead.
