He has served as the chief's driver for about 10 years and was praised by Safety Commissioner Gordon Hughes as very efficient and missed by the department.
A tractor and corn picker owned by Harold Wentzel and used on the Harry Weaver farm five miles southeast of Tipton burned late Tuesday afternoon. Both machines were severely damaged.
The Mardi Gras parade lineup and downtown Cedar Rapids route were announced by Hanford post 5 and Moose No 304 co sponsors. Entrants redeem free tickets for Linn county students ages 10 to 18 by signing a pledge. Havner’s bid to intervene failed. he offered no pecuniary interest or collusion proof. Switzer, Des Moines county attorney, accuses Bennett of extortion from six tavern operators. Bennett was suspended by Judge Russell Jordan pending case.
