Navy reveals sea going jet air force with eight new planes
Washington reports a sea going jet air force in being with eight new jet aircraft. The Navy plans 1,165 new and modern warplanes in 1949 and will retire 3,000 World War II types to reach 14,500 planes by year end. Navy aviation includes 40,000 officers and enlisted, 54 carrier air groups, 50 multi engine squadrons and 47 aircraft supporting units. The eight new jets listed include the AJ 1, F7U, F3D Skynight, F9F Panther, F2H Banshee, FJ 1 Fury, Phantom carrier, and P5Y.

Iowa State Team Wins Judging of Dairy Products
Iowa State College led the 27th collegiate students contest in judging dairy products winning grand team honors at the Dairy Industries Exposition in Atlantic City Ohio State was runner up. Each team earned an $850 graduate fellowship for a selected student badged through faculties of the winning schools. Representing Iowa State were members of the winning panel.

Marion City approves gas franchise for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric
A Marion Iowa ordinance grants a twenty five year franchise to Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company successor to Cedar Rapids Gas Company to lay pipes and mains in city streets alleys and public places to furnish natural and manufactured gas. The franchise sets conditions on street restoration charges and customer service and requires the grantee to maintain an office in Marion and file acceptance with the city council.
