Man charged after using flag in assault on mother
Cedar Rapids man Adam Lotzen, 39, is charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury, first degree harassment, eluding, and operating while intoxicated after allegedly attacking his mother at her North Liberty home. He allegedly grabbed a 3 by 5 foot American flag, twisted it into a rope, and attempted to strangle her while shouting death. The mother’s boyfriend intervened. Lotzen then punched him. He fled, was stopped, sedated, and jailed on a $30,000 bond with a no contact order filed.
