The University of Iowa edges toward a 7 million dollar fine arts campus including a gallery to house the Elliott collection. Plans include an auditorium classroom and music building on a 50 acre tract west of the river with state funds private gifts and student fees backing the project.
Johnson County teachers will miss classes as the County Professional Educators Institute convenes at City High. The board authorizes architects Harrison and Abramovitz to design an art building addition and a 25 000 square foot gallery east of the current facility. The gallery will be connected yet self contained for security while a fund drive resumes next month after the Elliotts donated their collection to SUI two years ago.
Herbert Hoover 31st U S president will be laid to rest today in West Branch Iowa. Public viewing limited. Airport arrival and burial at Hoover Birthplace Park follow a formal ceremony led by Dr D Elton Trueblood. Security provided by Iowa Army National Guard. Funeral cortege travels Highway 84 to 218 then Interstate 80.
