Fire Damages N W Bridge at Clinton
A spectacular fire raged nearly two hours over the Chicago and North Western drawbridge in Clinton causing extensive damage to the 300 foot span. The blaze started likely from a welding torch used by a bridge worker and burned all railroad ties while winds fanned the flames. Clinton and Fulton fire departments fought the blaze, river traffic was tied up, and train routes were rerouted through Davenport and Savanna as the warped mechanism was repaired.
