Cedar Rapids to install sensors on hydrants for McLoud Run
Cedar Rapids will place water pressure sensors in fire hydrants along McLoud Run to detect pressure changes after water main breaks. The aim is quicker responses to prevent fish kills and reduce treated water loss. First sensors may go in December with five to seven more planned next spring.

Suburbs drive outside spending in Iowa Statehouse races
Des Moines Gazette reports that 10 of the 11 top outside spending campaigns in Iowa House races since the June primary are in suburban or metro areas. Only House District 59 in Cerro Gordo County breaks the suburban pattern as the top spend carried by outside groups. Campaign finance reports were due Saturday and published by the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board.

Groups seek federal block of Iowa book ban in schools
Lambda Legal and ACLU of Iowa with Jenner Block file a new federal motion to halt Iowa laws that removed hundreds of books from public schools. The suit, on behalf of Iowa Safe Schools, two teachers, six students and families, targets library restrictions and the ban on LGBTQ discussion as well as mandatory parent reporting.
