Kirkwood establishes six county coordinators to boost outreach
Kirkwood Community College moves staff to county centers as part of a shift from specialists to generalists to improve off campus instruction and communication. The changes affect Washington Iowa Cedar Benton Jones Johnson counties with coordinators named or pending starting Nov. 1, and salaries unchanged. The board also plans a Washington dialogue, bids for campus security, and a 1982 83 ISC dues proposal.

Four persons were arrested and charged with drunk driving in Linn County late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Harry W. Ambrose 34 of Iowa City was arrested on First Avenue East at 11 35 p m Peter J. Olney 33 of Hiawatha was taken into custody at Miller and Blairs Ferry roads and charged with disobeying a traffic signal Darla J. Stephen 25 of Northwest Des Moines was arrested on Sixth Street NW and charged with failing to carry a driver s license Gary L. Ambdenstock 31 of Vinton was arrested on Highway 150 at Tower Terrace and charged with improper conveyance of a firearm after deputies found a loaded .22 rifle beside his seat outside its case.

The Iowa Supreme Court upheld Henry William DeChant’s second degree arson conviction for a Marion mobile home fire at 700 35th St. Linn County jurors found ample evidence he started the blaze with flammable liquid, with neighbors reporting the fire and the court noting intense insurance changes and dissatisfaction with housing.
