Shueyville EUB to Erect New Edifice

Evan gelical United Brethren church at Shueyville seven miles south of Cedar Rapids plans a new $50,000 church. The project follows seven years of fund drives raising about $20,000 with a $5,000 grant possible from Iowa conference and another from the Dayton general conference. Architect Norman E. Keller of Moline drew plans for a 70 by 30 foot Rustone structure with capacity for 172 and overflow space, two entrances, a full basement, and landscaped grounds. Bids will be let to start construction in 1956 under pastor Rev. William Suckow and building committee members from Shueyville and Swisher.

St. Lucas Parish Notes Centennial Observed

The hundredth anniversary of the first mass at St. Lucas parish was celebrated on the patronal feast day with a solemn high mass at 10 a.m. led by Rt. Rev. Msgr. John A. Steinlage of Amarillo along with several priests. The parish history includes a log church built in 1855, the town then known as Statheltown, and multiple church and school expansions under Father Boeding. Sixteen parishioners have entered the priesthood and 54 members joined religious orders in total.

Thirty six members of Rowley Methodist church harvested 1000 bushels of corn Monday afternoon from the God's Acre plot on the O. G. Foreman farm.
