The Last Command at the Alamo opens with Bowie’s siege

The film stars Sterling Hayden as Jim Bowie with a solid supporting cast and accurate Alamo battle scenes. It follows 1834 Texas rebellion leading to Santa Anna’s 4000 troops at the Alamo and Bowie’s death. The companion feature Double Jeopardy, a Los Angeles detective tale, stars Rod Cameron Gale Robbins and Allison Hayes.

Eastern Iowans lead cast in SUI season opener

Three Eastern Iowans join the University of Iowa theater debut of The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. Donald Fairley and Dennis Jones of Marion, Thomas Hardesty of Sigourney, and Richard Teberg of Columbus Junction are cast. Performances run Oct 27 28 29 and Nov 25. Grand Illusion Shown At Coe In Film Classics

Grand Illusion a celebrated war film from 1938 France will open at 8 p.m. in the Coe auditorium as the third Film Classics presentation. The feature follows Allied prisoners of war in Germany with cast Jean Gabin Pierre Fresnay Eric von Stroheim and Dita Parlo. Short cartoons by Norman McLaren with jazz soundtracks accompany the program. Season tickets cover 11 admissions. no single admissions.
