Ground broken for St. Luke's outpatient center
Groundbreaking was held Wednesday for the Ambulatory Surgery Center on the north side of St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Completion is expected in spring 1984. Attendees included George Lowe, Georgene Stapleton, Claudette Roby, Dave Shay, Chuck Burd, and Sam Wallace. Loomis Brothers is contractor, with financing from revenue bonds, gifts, hospital funds, and foundation solicitations.

Area Ambulance profits fall short of first quarter target
The Area Ambulance Service posted a first quarter profit of 4518 dollars, well below the 9292 dollar budget, with higher training costs and vehicle repairs cutting into earnings. Lifeguard air service uses two military surplus jets funded by private donations, and St. Luke's and Mercy Hospital personnel support calls. Lifeguard logged 80 flights in the quarter.

New wording eyed in cable theft amendment
Cedar Rapids Cable Communications proposes changes to the city cable ordinance to clarify that use of video games or home computers is not prohibited. Attorney Frank Mitralsky submitted a letter to City Council outlining the added language aimed at resolving confusion and preserving owner rights. Safety Commissioner Floyd Bergen will consult technical staff and the city attorney will review the proposal.

State taps unemployment benefits for child support
The state will recover current and past due child support from unemployment compensation as allowed by federal law effective Oct 1 1981. The Iowa DSS will hold a public hearing on rules Monday at 10 am at the United Way Building and may divert up to 65 percent of benefits to satisfy court ordered support.
