Settlement Reached Over Isolation of Calhoun Student

Jean Jenson of Calhoun County received 11500 to settle a suit against the Lohrville Community Board of Education and Superintendent Roger Baskerville. The claim said her son Robert was confined in a 4 by 16 feet isolation closet all day on March 15, with the district citing prior punishments and opportunities to leave. The suit sought damages for mental distress and alleged community ostracism while the school argued distress stemmed from home factors.

Guilty Verdict In Tyson Prison Death Case

A Lee County District Court jury found Iowa State Penitentiary inmate Jerry Williams guilty of first degree murder in the death of fellow prisoner Gary Tyson. Tyson was found stabbed near the prison kitchen after a riot on Sept 2 1981. Williams is the third inmate convicted.
