The Iowa Highway Commission schedules a public hearing on the Route 13 improvement in Linn and Delaware counties. The meeting is set for Thursday Oct 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Manchester Junior High School.
The highway commission has acquired 75 percent of the land needed for a four-lane upgrade of highway 13 between Marion and Central City. Letting is set for February 29, grading and bridges will be completed in 1972 with paving in 1973. The expressway will follow the current route to just south of Central City then bypass the town on the west.
Mrs. Echels Ford of Dysart died Wednesday in an Iowa City hospital from injuries suffered in a September 9 automobile crash. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home.
Guttenberg Community School District sold $580000 of school addition bonds to Continental Illinois Bank and Trust of Chicago. The 20 year bonds carry 4.3 percent interest, saving over $60000 compared with expected rates. Proceeds finance a 30000 square foot high school addition, with work set to begin around March 1.

Alumni director Meyer calls the clearing center a new program to foster direct dialogue between future health care professionals and Iowa community leaders.
Jerry Alan Fox of Washburn pled guilty in Tama county district court to drunk driving. He was fined 300 dollars and costs and had his driver's license revoked for 120 days. Fox was arrested October 8 on Highway 63 north of Toledo by the highway patrol.
Iowa City could spend over two million on waste removal in the next decade but a University of Iowa geologist and Clermont senior propose a recycling system that may cut costs to about seven hundred thousand. The plan involves homeowner sorting into cans and bottles, clean paper, and trash, with a new 273000 dollar processing facility to bale and sell recovered materials.
