Cedar Rapids voters narrowed the Nov 2 municipal ballot to four council hopefuls for two seats. Incumbent John Oberthien and Floyd Bergen led the safety commissioner race, while Harold Schaefer and Ruth Martwig survived the finance commissioner contest. In Iowa City six of fifteen candidates advanced in a primary marked by heavy youth turnout the first time 18 to 21 year olds could vote.
