Viet Fight Is Slowed By Typhoon

Saigon AP reports that Typhoon Carla curtailed US air operations against North Vietnam for a second day. Center winds dropped to 29 mph over the Gulf of Tonkin, washing out strikes from three Gulf carriers. Friday’s operations were mostly by air force and marine aircraft from Thailand or South Vietnam, with 77 attack missions including a target near Hanoi. Ground actions in South Vietnam saw light American casualties and continued allied pressure near Con Thien as B 52 bombers harassed suspected enemy concentrations in and around the DMZ. Navy ships targeted southern North Vietnam, while Marine outposts reported light enemy fire.
